Counselors In Training (CITs)
Youth ages 12–17 can build essential leadership skills while supporting Slide Ranch's summer camp programs by becoming a summer CIT. This is a unique program for youth ready to step into a leadership role. CITs are not campers themselves but mentors and helpers, actively contributing to a vibrant and supportive camp community. It is important youth talk with their parent(s)/guardian(s) about being ready for this next step. There is no shame in wanting to remain a camper!
CITs guide younger campers, assist with hands-on activities, nature games, and learn fundamentals of outdoor education alongside our experienced Summer Outdoor Instructors. CITs develop confidence as role models, learn practical childcare techniques, and gain experience in environmental stewardship. CITs are an essential part of the camper experience!
Experienced CITs are welcome to join fall, winter, and spring camps. Read how past CITs graduated from Camper to Instructor.
CIT training
May 30, 2026, 9:30am - 3:30pm
Training Fee: $495
New AND returning CITs must register for and complete the May training session.
We ask CITs be available for a minimum of 2 camp weeks. CIT summer hours count as community service hours!
CIT training focuses on the specific skills youth will need to support campers. It helps youth develop the confidence to take on new leadership challenges, while providing an opportunity to connect with other CITs.
Youth that have successfully completed CIT training may join us for as many weeks of camp as available! We will send a survey prior to training to select preferred weeks.
PLEASE NOTE: Some youth may not yet be ready to be CITs and may still be very much in “camper mode”. That’s ok! If, after completing our CIT training, we determine someone is not yet ready to be a CIT, they are welcome to join CIT training again the following year!
